List of Characters: The Tricycle (Le Tricycle) — 1953 by Fernando Arrabal
The play has a small cast,
with the action mainly centred on three young characters:
1. Climando —
One of the two young men at the centre of the play. He is poor, imaginative,
playful, and closely connected with Apal.
2. Apal —
Climando’s companion and friend. Like Climando, he lives in poverty and shares
his unusual games, dreams, and attempts to improve their difficult
circumstances.
3. Mita — A
young woman who becomes part of Climando and Apal’s world. Her presence
introduces another important dimension to their relationships and contributes
to the development of the dramatic events.
4. The
Policeman — A representative of the outside social order who
becomes involved in the events surrounding the three central characters.
The three principal
characters—Climando, Apal, and Mita— form the emotional and dramatic centre
of The Tricycle. Their relationships, poverty, dreams, games, and
attempts to escape their circumstances constitute the main action of the play.
